Lynch, Terence Brian
1926 – 2021
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Terence Brian Lynch on May 10, 2021 in Ottawa. He was predeceased by his parents, John Henry and Norah Lynch, and siblings, Harry, Gerald, Roy and Patricia. He was the beloved husband of 70 years to Margaret Lynch, father to Michael (Mary Jo), Mark, Jacquie, Vivien (Stadig) and Brendan (deceased), and much loved by eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Terence was born on September 15, 1926 in Blackpool, England. He served in the Royal Navy as a radar officer during WW11. He and Margaret started a young family in England before emigrating to Canada where they added a fifth child. He was a chemist, beginning his career at Glaxo (Ulverston, England and Barrie, Wales), and later Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (Ottawa), Allied Chemical (Sarnia), and CIL (Sarnia). After retiring from CIL Agricultural Chemicals as Vice President, he was not content to sit idle. He setup his own company, Fertilizer Technology Group and helped create Surface Chemists of Florida and assisted many clients with matters relating to chemical fertilizers. He enjoyed an international reputation in his field, with friends in many countries, most notably Russia, Japan and the United States.
Terence was committed to his community. For example, in London Ontario, through diligent research, he secured recognition including a heritage plaque for a War of 1812 skirmish. He would always go out of his way to give somebody a leg up as needed. He was an avid gardener, devoured books at the rate of one a day, and was a lover of cats.
As the scientist in Dad always pointed out, our composition only changes at death and our energy remains indestructible forever. Dad lives on eternally both in our hearts and the universe. No rocket ship required, Dad!
He will be missed by all.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at the Manotick Retirement Place for looking after him so well.
An interment and funeral service will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Terence to your local Humane Society.
