Suzanne Isabel (nee Dalrymple) Campbell passed away peacefully August 15, 2021 in her 97th year. Born in Collingwood September 13, 1924, the third daughter of four to John and Annie (McNab) Dalrymple. Her Scottish parents immigrated to Canada in WWI so that John could manage the shipyard initially in Collingwood, and then during WWII in Vancouver. Suzanne believed in the importance of education graduating from UBC with a degree in social work, she then worked with the needy as a social worker for the City of Vancouver. She married William (Bill) Ralph Campbell, April 16, 1949 and spent the next 65 years discovering the world and raising a family with Bill who predeceased in 2015. Her beloved sisters Helen McCrae and Annie Ironside also predecease Suzanne.
Suzanne and Bill lived in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Thornhill, Sydney Australia and Beaconsfield Quebec before settling in Oakville in 1979. Suzanne had the unique ability to quickly lay down roots in her new communities, establish her sons into good schools, volunteered for local arts organizations and church committees, and always make lifelong friends. She had a sharp wit, engaging personality and wonderful sense of style. Suzanne was always prepared and packed for all weather conditions, which made travelling a bit of a challenge for Bill during their many trips and cruises throughout the world. Extremely well-read, Suzanne was always actively involved in a book and investment clubs, she read the newspaper and watched the news daily, and was able to converse on any subject. She always hosted a great party or family gathering, and was gracious and welcoming to all. An avid and excellent bridge player, Suzanne played in her more recent years at St. John’s United Church, The Oakville Club, with friends from the Oakville University Women’s Club. She continued her love of bridge and her support for charities during her recent time at Amica Bronte, and we thank all of the Amica staff for their kindness to Suzanne.
Suzanne is survived by her dear sister Jean Watt; lovingly remembered by her three sons and their spouses: John (Judy), Rob (Martha), Chris (Jonathan); grandchildren, William (Amanda), Adrienne (Richard), Heather (Ajai), Tara (Eddie), Megan, Fergus and Georgia. She was thrilled to recently become a GG to her first great-grandchild Finlay. Suzanne cherished her nieces and nephews Bill (Pat) Campbell, Jim (Carol) Campbell, Jim (Susan) Ironside and Joanne Watt along and their children. Suzanne loved everyone and had a special gift of being able to connect with all generations, and we will miss her unwavering charm and love. Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home Thursday, September 16th from 4 to 6pm. There will be a private graveside service at St. Jude’s Cemetery. Donations in Suzanne’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, would be greatly appreciated.
