Obituary
Susan Elizabeth Goodman
Dec 19,1946 – Feb. 12, 2021
Susan was born in Toronto on December 19, 1946 to Grant and Florence Stinson and passed away February 12, 2021 in Fort St. John after a brave 10 year battle with cancer. In her first 16 years, the family lived in Chatham, Wallaceburg, and on a farm near Dresden Ontario. In 1962 the family moved to Bowden Alberta where Susan graduated from high school. In 1968 Susan married Gary Payette and their twin boys Grant Stevens and Gregory Shaun were born in Innisfail that year. In 1971 the family moved to Baldonnel and later to Fort St. John. Susan missed her family but soon was hooked on the area. She loved the “Peace” country. Susan had earned her Business Diploma from the Olds Vocational College and in 1971 began her bookkeeping career.
In 1990 Susan married Barry Goodman and they settled into life at Charlie Lake. There she loved spending time in their yard tending to her flower beds and hanging baskets and watching the birds (especially the sassy blue jays) that came to the well stocked feeders. She started her own business “Rainbow Bookkeeping” and later “Fisherman’s Castings” operating out of her home office. Susan loved her family, nature, the changing seasons, a good thunderstorm, boating and fishing on Charlie Lake, sorting out a “messy set of books, and animals. She had a particular soft spot for dogs and cats and always had a few furry four legged friends around. Susan dabbled in writing poetry, enjoyed painting and doing needlepoint and always looked forward to A&W and movie dates (don’t forget the popcorn!) with her friend Pat. Susan was a “people person” and always had kind words for them. With her health challenges in recent years, she rarely complained, always put her faith in the hands of her doctors, and did her best to protect her loved ones from worrying about her. She was loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Susan is survived by her husband Barry Goodman of Charlie Lake; her sons Grant (Candi) of Fort St. John and Greg (Dania) of Charlie Lake ; her sister Janie (Fred) of Stettler Ab.; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; many family members and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Grant and Florence Stinson.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If family or friends wish, donations in Susan’s memory will be gratefully accepted to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
