Steve Obodiak 2021

Steve’s Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Steve Obodiak announce the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather at the Canora Hospital, Canora, SK, on May 15, 2021, at the age of 90 years.
Steve was born on June 21, 1930, in Canora, SK, to Mike and Mary (Matsalla) Obodiak. He was raised on the farm in the Amsterdam area, where he attended Crooked Hill Creek School. Steve married Elsie Kotyk on November 7, 1953. The couple made their home on the family homestead by Amsterdam, where they raised their four children, Marcel, Debbie, Annette, and Carol.
For twenty years, Steve was employed with Sask. Crop. Insurance. He served as a councillor for the RM of Buchanan, SK, for eight years and as a reeve for four years. He also served on several other boards, such as Canora Union Hospital and Gateway Lodge, C and D.
Steve was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a historian of Canora and area events. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball as a short stop and hockey as a goalie. He still loved to follow all current sporting events.
He had a love for music, singing in bands, and dancing. He loved listening to Sirius Radio, which inspired him to write his own song.
Steve always had a story to tell and enjoyed his coffee with his buddies. Going for coffee and stopping to buy his lottery tickets was one of the things Steve missed most this past year.
In the fall of 1999, Steve moved to a new home in Canora, SK, where he resided until his passing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary Obodiak; brother, John (Helen) Obodiak, and his sister, Antonia (Frank) Brezinski.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elsie; son, Marcel (Joyce) of Alberta; his three daughters, Debbie (Dan) of Canora, Annette (Tony) of Esterhazy, and Carol (Friend-Josh) of Yorkton; eleven grandchildren: Jodie (Buck) Beaton, Brandi (Chris) Granger, Chris (Chad) Stennick, Jordan (Leslie) Obodiak, Darcelle (Shane) Mclean, Jennifer (Nick) Dareichuk, Brandi (Bobby) Day, Logan Stauch, Taylor Stauch, Seth Kolisnek, and Kade Kolisnek; and great-grandchildren; as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A Public Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 2021, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK. A Private Funeral Service will be held and live-streamed at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Piasta officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Steve Obodiak.
