Shirley Smith passed away peacefully on April 5, 2021 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Shirley was born on September 12, 1932 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to C.E. Stanfield and Helen Smith. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Carleton College and earned her masters in Library Science from the University of Ottawa. She worked as a librarian for the RCMP and then for CN before retiring. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother Robert. She will be greatly missed by Robert and Susan Hum and family.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff of Colonel By Retirement Residence for their excellent care, especially to those who not only took care of her but her cat Patches as well. Thanks also to the staff from the CCAC who also provided support to Shirley.
Shirley will be interred in Truro Cemetery, Truro Nova Scotia next to her parents in the family plot at a date to be determined in May. There will be no services in Ottawa. In Shirley’s memory please consider donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Ottawa Food Bank. Interment arrangements entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S.
