Obituary for Shirley May Fletcher
April 8, 1935 – July 1, 2021
Shirley May Fletcher April 8, 1935 – July 1, 2021, 86 years of age, and forever young at heart.
Shirley was a strong, independent, fun-loving person who always saw the bright side of things; she was full of life right to the end.
Shirley was born in Vancouver and died in Vancouver. She was a prairie woman who grew up, married and raised her three children in Saskatchewan; she and the family also lived in Calgary Alberta for many years. Shirley spent half of her life in BC living at Christina Lake, in Kelowna for thirty wonderful years, and most recently in Vancouver surrounded by her family.
Shirley was an amazing craftsperson: weaving, quilting, sewing, knitting, painting and was always in a musical group. She loved to travel and spent many winters motor homing in the Palm Desert and Fountain of Youth with her husband Ted; she also travelled to Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand, Alaska and the Panama Canal. More than anything, she loved spending summers at Gardom Lake relaxing with the family. Shirley was very active in the community and was a Red Hatter, a member of the Legion and Daughters of the Nile.
Her greatest joy was being with family especially her great grandchildren and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her two husbands Ted Taylor and Norm Fletcher; sister Gail Lahey; and granddaughter Melanie Fletcher. She is survived by her brother Mike Braithwaite; 3 children Kate Fletcher (Bill Wishart), Scott Fletcher (Veronica), Patie Jansen; 4 grandchildren Sasha, Crystal, Ashley, Brodie (Tom); 5 great grandchildren Nick, Damien, Ivry, Colby, Olive; and great-great grandchild Max.
Shirley spent the last three years of her life very happily with her family in Vancouver, living at Seton Villa where she made many friends. She always had a smile on her face and loved a good laugh. She was an inspiring person who led an amazing life. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. We love you Mom.
