Shirley’s Obituary
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Shirley Gladys James (nee Durnford) announce her peaceful passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques, NL, on Saturday, November 6th, 2021 at the age of 81 years. Born in Parsons Harbiour, NL, Shirley was the daughter of the late James and Suzanna Durnford (nee Warren). She was also predeceased by her daughter; Darlene Pink, infant sister; Maggie Durnford, sister; Pearl (Gordon) James, nephews; Keith Skinner, Gary Skinner, brothers-in-law; Robert James, Edgar (Gerine) James, Ben Thorne, sisters-in-law; Hazel (Henry) Skinner, Debbie (Victor) Peters, and Frances Durnford.
Shirley leaves behind to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband; Ivan James, her daughter; Paulette (Wayne) McNeil both of Port aux Basques, NL, grandchildren; Matthew Osmond of St. John’s, NL, Ashley (Timmy) White, Candace White both of Port aux Basques, NL, two great-granddaughters; Emily and Julia. Shirley also leaves behind her brother; Newman Durnford of Conception Bay South, NL, sister; Juanita Thorne of Burgeo, NL, sister-in-law; Lena James of Antigonish, NS, plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at East Haven Funeral Home Inc., 57 Grand Bay Road, Port aux Basques. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 9th, at 2 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Channel-Port aux Basques officiated by Rev. Jane Allen. Interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill, TCH, NL. Due to the latest Government regulations your Newfoundland VaxPass, photo ID and masks are required for entry to the visitation and church service. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to the St. James Anglican Church Fund or the St. James Anglican Cemetery Fund.
