It is with deeply saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful & devoted mother, aunt, sister, and wife; Shirley Fricker (née Anema).
Shirley passed away peacefully and without pain on September 5th, 2021 at Cowichan District Hospital at 2:38 am, after a short battle with cancer.
Kindhearted and witty, Shirley was always involved in efforts to help others when she could. She attended St. David’s Church in Celista, BC for many years, and was often involved with the Community Hall, preparing meals, etc., for various events while living in Anglemont, BC. Shirley was a devoted Royal Canadian Legion member with Branches 61, and 107; and held many positions with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Delta branch, including President.
The eldest of 10 children born to Okke & Mary Anema; she is predeceased by them, as well as her husband Al Fricker; her brother Raymond Anema; and her granddaughter Shaylan Foster.
Shirley is survived by her children; Deborah (Dragan) & Steve Henwood of Hope, BC; Doug Foster & Bonnie Pelley-McNickle of Duncan, BC; and James Foster of Delta, BC. As well, she is survived by her siblings: Tina Kennedy (Anema) of Hamilton, ON; Jenny (Anema) & Jake DeWeerd of Langley, BC; Ada Anema (wife of Raymond) of Houston, BC; John Anema of Edmonton, AB; Ann Anema of Stony Plain, AB; Theresa (Anema) & Jack Kalisvaart of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Harry & Nelly Anema of Red Water, AB; Keimpe/Kim Anema of Saanich, BC; and Jacques & Reina Anema of Abbotsford, BC. Her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren, will also miss her greatly.
A Celebration of Life for Shirley, will be announced at a later date, due to Covid-19.
