Shioge Michibata, March 12, 1930-May 6, 2021
Shioge Michibata passed away peacefully in his sleep at Baycrest Hospital in Toronto on Thursday, May 6 at the age of 91. Loved and survived by wife Sueko, sons Thomas and Glenn (Angie) and grandchildren Cori and Matthew, brother Goro and sister Shizuko. Predeceased by brothers Ichiro and Kenzo and sister Yuriko. Shioge was born in Kelowna, B.C. The family moved to Japan when he was 7. Deciding farm life was not for him, he came to Toronto with little on his back in 1951. His first job in Canada was as a labourer on a mushroom farm in Mississauga. He met Sueko a few years later and the couple married in 1956. Shioge would become a machinist at United Tire and retire after 25 years of loyal service. He started his own side business of stringing tennis racquets to help make ends meet. Shioge’s interests included playing tennis, working with his hands, singing at the Toronto Buddhist senior karaoke club and watching tennis and the Toronto Blue Jays on TV. He loved to drive to Princeton, New Jersey from Toronto so he could spend time with his grandchildren and help out around Glenn and Angie’s home. Shioge will be remembered as a quiet but honourable man, always willing to help out others. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toronto Buddhist Church. A private family service will take place Friday, May 14 at 1pm at Ward Funeral Home, 2035 Weston Road, Toronto.
Respecting the current situation and pandemic restrictions, the funeral service is private. The family has provided the opportunity to view the LiveStream from the comfort of your own home. This link will become available at the time of the service.
We thank you for your understanding and encourage you to provide your condolences to the family through his memorial page.
Wearing of masks or face coverings by everyone is mandatory as per the Provincial Regulations.
