Shepherd, Fredrick Ernest. Oct 27,1928 ~ March 22, 2021. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Fred Shepherd at Edgewater Gardens, Dunnville in his 93rd year.
Fred has been reunited with his wife Jean (nee Page 2004) and daughter Nancy (2002). He will be greatly missed by his children Rick (Connie), Chris (Mary), MaryAnn (Joey), Randy, Patrick (Rhonda) and Fred Jr. (Gail). Lovingly remembered by his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred is survived by his sister Joan Comfort and predeceased by his brothers Douglas, Sandy “Sam”, Wilfred “Buddy” and Donald.
Fred was born on the family farm in Kingston, Ontario to Mary (Instant) and Fredrick Shepherd. Later his family purchased a farm in Wainfleet where he spent his teenage years. Fred and Jean settled in Dunnville after their marriage where they raised their seven children. Fred was a long haul trucker working for Phillips and Laidlaw before his retirement. In his later years he loved to reminisce about all the places he visited on his trucking travels and his many road trips to Alberta to visit his family.
Fred had a lifelong love of sports. His many passions included motorcycling, baseball, golfing, and hockey where Fred was a goalie. He was the founder of “Sheps Allstars” (SAS) a team that is still in existence today. The team was made up of Fred’s family and friends and then carried on by their families and friends. Many a good time was had Sunday mornings at the rink! Fred was a past member of the Dunnville Boat Club where he enjoyed boating and water skiing; once across Lake Erie to Dunkirk and back even though he couldn’t swim a stroke! He also had a great love of airplanes but a fear of flying kept his feet on the ground!
Our family would like to thank the doctors who cared for Dad over the years. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Edgewater Gardens, particularly those who spent time with Dad, listened to his stories and helped him through the loneliness of living in long term care over this past year.
