Obituary of Sheldon Engele
Sheldon Paul Engele
December 9, 1938 ~ August 21, 2021
Sheldon Engele passed away at the Victoria Hospital on August 21, 2021 at the age of 82 with his family by his side.
Sheldon was born on December 9, 1938 to Paul and Catherine Engele in Carmel, SK. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Harrower on September 1, 1972. They made Prince Albert their home where they raised their daughter Kari and son Tyler.
Sheldon excelled in his career as a welder. He had his journeyman and pressure ticket in four provinces at the same time, an unusual occurrence in the late 1960’s He achieved his teaching certificate and was 3 classes short of obtaining his teaching degree. Sheldon was a UA union member for 56+ years. Sheldon worked in construction/pipeline welder for four years. He was a post secondary welding instructor for three years at SIAST. For 26 years, he taught welding at Tech and Carlton High School. He also spent summers welding in construction/mines.
Professionally, he assisted with the revamp and modernization of the provincial high school welding curriculum, built and developed the high school welding course, and also designed, built and continued to update the high school welding shop.
Sheldon had many interests such as woodworking, welding, and gardening. He enjoyed his 2 acres of grass and forest watching the birds, deer and the odd racoon.
He loved to listen to old time dance music, especially on Saturday nights. In his personal time, he was spent time at the hockey/ringette rink and at the soccer field and more recently dance competitions. He consistently “went for coffee” in the afternoon with guys for almost 50 years and regularly went shopping for deals. More recently, in his spare time, he would enjoy doing Wizzword word jumbles. New technology brought Sheldon frustrations especially cell phones but he continued to obtain the newest technology
Sheldon achieved much in his life. He built his own house, completed all the landscaping, built trailers, boat lifts, fences, dune buggies and hot rods. Sheldon worked hard to support Dorothy and his children in all of their pursuits. He was especially proud of Dorothy’s extensive quilting projects and her homemade baking.
Sheldon had a firm handshake and was known for his mischievous nature as a teacher. He was a solid fan of a cold COKE, a good chocolate and a cigarette. He was proud to have quit smoking after 52 years in 2004.
Above all, family was the most important to Sheldon. He was a dedicated family man. Sheldon will be lovingly remembered by his wife almost 49 years (11 days short), Dorothy Engele (nee Harrower); daughter Kari (Cory), son Tyler (Jodi); granddaughter Quindelyn Carter; and dog Zoey.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Victoria Hospital ICU and Palliative Care. In memory of Sheldon, donations may be made to the Rose Garden Hospice,
