Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Sandi Callahan on June 18, 2021, in Winnipeg, MB. Sandi leaves a legacy of almost 60 years of love, joy, and compassion. Sandi leaves behind her loving husband of 27 years John Callahan. Sandi also leaves to mourn her stepchildren Kaitlyn and Jacklyn, and her grandchildren Brad and Fiona. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Francis and Alfred Schilke, her brother Glenn, sister in law Helen, brother Steve, fiancee Dar and nephews Zach and Michael. Sandi had a special place in the hearts and minds of her mother-in-law and father-in-law, John, and Rowena Callahan. Sandi will be fondly remembered by all her friends and family and those who were fortunate enough to touch her life. Sandi spent over 30 wonderful years working for Palliser/DeFehr Furniture in Winnipeg. She received many commendations and awards including an Excellence Achievement Award. Sandi was a consummate professional and gave 100% of herself to whatever she endeavoured whether personal or professional. Her love for life and animals was evident in all that she did whether rescuing a baby squirrel, or taking in a stray dog, travelling through the mountains, fishing, and canoeing. Sandi also adopted a Gorilla through the Dian Fossy Gorilla fund and was an advocate and supporter of many causes that she believed passionately in. When she was able Sandi was always at John’s side, whether working in the shop, home projects, marching in the Labour Day parade, picket lines or labour rallies in both Canada and the United States. Sandi’s presence and impact to all the lives she enriched will be sadly missed and will live on in our collective memories. In keeping with Sandi’s love and compassion for animals, in lieu of flowers, please, if you wish, make a donation on Sandi’s behalf to the City of Winnipeg, Animal Services Agency, in memory of Sandi’s 3 precious fur babies, Nikita, Teaka and Pip. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when covid restrictions are lifted. Private family funeral will be held at St. Nicholas Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Winnipeg, MB R2X 1J9. “What we have once enjoyed deeply can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us” Rest peacefully dear Sandi
