Ruth Mary Hill
1942-2021
Ruth Mary
Hill, 78, of Hillsborough and formerly of Port Credit, Ontario, passed
away peacefully at her home and is now with her Father in
Heaven.
Ruth was born in
Toronto, Ontario on November 28th, 1942 the daughter of the late
Harvey and Bette (Crawford) Self.
Ruth started her
career as a Registered Nurse in the Hospital for Sick
Children in Toronto and retired from St. Michael’s Hospital
both of which were very close to her heart. She was a caring
soul, always looking out for her patients’ best interest.
She very much missed her time with the children at Sick Kids, often
telling stories of those she was proud to be able to help. A nurse
through and through, she always had a story to tell about her day at
work, sometimes forgetting the more delicate sensitivities of her
audience. She loved visiting the rhododendron garden and
walking the beach along Lake Ontario and later after moving to
Hillsborough, she loved being near the ocean where she always hoped
for big waves. Her faith was very important to her and she
was an active member of the Church of the Redeemer in Toronto and
faithfully attended St. Mary’s Anglican Church when she moved to
Hillsborough. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and
she enjoyed spending time with them in Germany, Ottawa and
Hillsborough, always wanting to hear about all their
accomplishments. Her favourite times were when her children
and grandchildren were all together.
She will be deeply
missed by her daughters, Rowena Roppeltt (Manfred) of Germany,
Rosaline Hill of Ottawa; son, Eliot Hill (Nancy) of Hillsborough;
treasured grandchildren, Miriam, Johannes, Yasmina, Lily, MacGregor
and Molly; sister, Bette Ireland (Chris) of Huntsville, ON and
brother-in-law, Ted Anderson of Pembrook, ON and Shirley Self of
Markham, ON. She will also be missed by several nieces and
nephews and by many close friends in Toronto and at Caledonia Place in
Hillsborough.
Besides her parents she
was predeceased by her sister, Anne Anderson.
She will be resting at
the Albert County Funeral Home with visitation on Friday November 5th
from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm. The Funeral service will be held at
the St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Hillsborough on Saturday, November
6th, 2021 at 2:00pm with Rev. Rob Salloum officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario at
a later date.
For those who wish
donations in her memory to the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation
would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements are in the
care of the Albert County Funeral Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape,
