Ruth Lorraine Einarson
Passed on December 9, 2021 in her 87th year at her residence. Ruth was born on August 20, 1935 at Toronto Western Hospital. She graduated North Toronto Collegiate, followed by University of Toronto where she earned a Master of Education. Ruth met Bill while working at the Algonquin Hotel, St. Andrew’s By the Sea, in New Brunswick. The couple married October 19, 1956 at Forest Hill United Church, Toronto at the age of 21.
Beloved mother to Dave (Carolyn) Nancy and Mark (Shondie). Loving grandmother to Brandon, Erica, Grant, Jack, Lindsay, Magnus, Angus and Christian.
After retirement from Humber College Ruth and Bill took an extended holiday that included Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and Fiji . Their love of travel also took them to Portugal, Germany, Italy, England, Scotland, Wales, Japan, and across Canada and the United States with many winters spent in Florida.
An avid gardener, Ruth joined the Markdale Horticultural Society and was an active member. She also enjoyed singing with the Annesley United Church Christmas Choir. After moving from Etobicoke to “the farm” in Euphrasia Township in 1988, Ruth and Bill hosted numerous family and social gatherings that often included dips in the pond.
Ruth was also an active member of the Retired Women’s Teachers Ontario ( RWTO) for over 27 plus years.
A daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, a friend, a teacher, a gardener, a world traveller and maker of the best pumpkin pie. A supporter of numerous charities, both local and internationally that included Peta, Greenpeace, Markdale Hospital and many other environmental causes. A reader and a thinker, Ruth will be missed.
At Ruth’s request there will be no funeral. In the spring the family will gather at the farm to plant a tree in her memory. In lieu of flowers if desired, donations to the Markdale Public Library would be greatly appreciated.
