It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Janetta Girard (nee Humphreys) on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Trail Regional Hospital, blessed with 88 years of life.
Ruth is predeceased by her mother Queenie Bingham, step-dad Robert Bingham, brother Cyril Humphreys, and grandson Shawn Girard. She will be greatly missed by her husband and soul mate Ron Girard, son Rob (Deb) Girard, daughter Yvonne/”Bonnie” (Peter) Martin, son Maury Girard (Ben), granddaughter Melanie Girard (Ryan Adam) great-grandson Atlas Samuel, granddaughter Jennifer Girard (Ben), and grandson Matthew Martin.
Ruth was born in Trail, BC on October 5, 1932 and often told stories of her trips to Vancouver, where at the age of 13, she met and became friends with Ron. At the age of 16, she moved to Vancouver to work, reconnected with Ron and began a courtship that flourished into marriage on Nov. 21, 1953. Ruth and Ron made their family home in Genelle, BC where Ruth helped in the community, organizing many sports day events for the children, dances and parties for the adults, and became a Girl Guide leader. Ruth loved canning vegetables and fruit, baking, knitting, sewing (especially pajamas), bowling, playing cards with family and friends, and devoting time to her grandchildren. Mom also worked for the CPR, in the office and ‘walking the tracks’ as a car checker, also at the Kootenay Co-op office.
At Ruth’s request, there will be a private celebration for family only. Andreas Schmitz of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
Special thanks are extended to the caring staff at Castle Wood Village retirement community in Castlegar and home support services.
You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Ruth Janetta Girard July 25th 2021..
