Roy Steven Steffens
New Waterford
It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Roy Steffens on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home in New Waterford.
Born in Sydney Mines on August 5, 1948, he was the son of the late Herbert and Cleophas (Serroul) Steffens.
Roy had a strong work ethic, first having worked for Devco at the wash plant in Sydney Mines, then at the Prince Colliery for 25 yrs. In 1984, during the fire at the #26 Colliery in Glace Bay, he served with the mine rescue as Draegermen. After retirement, he went on to long haul trucking throughout Canada and the US, then to driving taxi in New Waterford.
Roy is survived by his children John (Nancy) Steffens (Morinville, AB) and Mary Steffens (North Sydney), as well as the mother of his children, Ruth, and his companion Judy Jessome and family. He is also survived by his siblings Theresa and Dorothy Barry, Isabel Ferguson, Brian and Barry (Roxanne) Steffens, and sister-in-law Isabel Steffens.
Besides his parents, Roy was predeceased by his sisters Marion Godin and Mary Sparkes, and brothers Herbert Steffens Jr, and Russell Steffens, as well as brothers-in-law Melvin Sparkes, Junior Ferguson, and Dave Barry.
Special thanks to Dr. John Kirkpatrick and Dr. Alexander Wawer for their excellent care. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service to be held at a later late.
