As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations to the Arthur St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia would be appreciated by the family.
The Dixon family lived in Arthur from 1921 to the present. Walter built the family home on 130 Frederick Street at the site of his lumber and plaining mill. The family business grew and both sons Roy and Merlin worked their whole lives at W. Dixon & Sons, later Arthur Lumber & Building Supplies and in Fergus, Dixon Home Hardware is still operated by great-great grandsons of Walter Dixon. Roy was an accomplished carpenter and loved wood working his entire life making many cherished garden benches and keepsakes for friends and family.
Roy married the love of his life, Elois (Lolly) Givens in 1944 and had 4 children, Glenn, Ken, Jane and Rob. He also built his own home at 150 Frederick Street and raised his family there. He was a community minded man belonging to the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church for over 90 years, Arthur Lions Club where he was proud to have received a perfect attendance record for over many years, even attending meetings in Florida where he winter vacationed for many years.
He was a long time member of the Prince Arthur Masonic Lodge, the Royal City Lodge of Perfection and Guelph Chapter Rose Croix and Shriners, the Arthur Curling Club and Arthur Lawn Bowling Club.
Roy and Lolly took up the game of golf in their retirement years at Pike Lake in Mt. Forest and at Bonfire Village, Leesburg, Florida. They had numerous friends in both parks and in Arthur and loved to dance and socialize with family and friends. They were always proud of their open door hospitality, which they have passed on to their children.
The family wishes to thank all the medical care givers at Groves Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph’s Complex Care, Apple Blossom Lane, and especially the excellent care and compassion he received at Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia.
REST IN PEACE DEAR ONE.
