Obituary of Rosella Baerg
Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Rosella Giesbrecht Baerg, was born in her parents’ home on February 24, 1926, at Grande Pointe, MB, to Solomon and Katherine Goossen Giesbrecht.
Mom was the eldest child in a family of eight.
Mom calmly, quietly, peacefully departed this life on April 23, 2021, with her daughter, Lorna, by her side.
Mom received few years of formal education because the family moved around a lot. Mom started grade one a year late, so that she and her next older brother could start school together. Mom started school knowing only the Low German language.
Mom accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, at the age of fourteen in May of 1940, by Minister Jacob F. Barkman. Mom loved the Lord. Mom was a real prayer warrior. Mom was concerned about the salvation of her children and grandchildren.
Mom loved to sing and sang solos in her younger years. Mom taught Sunday School and Bible School, served in the lunch committee, and very much enjoyed going to Sewing Circle.
Mom was united in marriage to our Dad, Walter Penner Baerg, on June 25,1955, in Steinbach, MB. Mom moved with Dad to Linden, AB, and was lovingly accepted by Dad’s family and community. They enjoyed just about sixty-five years of marriage, with Dad passing away in June of 2020. They were blessed with three sons and one daughter.
Mom started to work away from home at a young age to help support the family. Mom worked in Blumenort and Steinbach areas doing housework and milking cows, as well as in Winnipeg, in a cap and hat factory. Mom also worked in Ontario, canning tomatoes and peaches, and in Kamloops, B.C., in a tomato patch. Mom also spoke of having worked in the sugar beet fields. After Mom and Dad were married, Mom worked at the Co-op in Linden, AB.
Mom enjoyed being a homemaker and keeping a tidy house. Mom´s kitchen was her domain, and she happily kept her husband and family well fed. Mom and Dad were very hospitable and enjoyed many guests throughout the years. Mom also spent many hours in her garden, providing well for many delicious meals.
As Mom aged, she required a higher level of care, and just over four years ago both Mom and Dad moved to the Mannville Care Centre. Even though bedridden a lot of the time, Mom had a cheerful outlook on life. Mom was still very interested in what was going on around her, in the care facility, with her loved ones, and the congregation at Dewberry.
