Rose Rocchio (née Bonise) ~ November 18, 1916 – February 23, 2021
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mom, grandma and great grandma in her 105th year. She was the matriarch of our family – predeceased by her husband, John after 54 years of marriage. She will be sadly missed by her children Ron Rocchio (Maureen), Bernie Rocchio (Jane), Francie Gattie (Don-predeceased). She remains forever in the hearts of her grandchildren, Jacki Rocchio-Wynn (Dave), Christine Buonaiuto (Carmen), Mark Rocchio, Michael Rocchio, David Gattie (Leah) and Janice Friend (Steve). She will be forever cherished by her great grandchildren: Jennifer, Duncan, Evan, Dempsey, Delaney, Ben, Darren, Tanya and Cynthia. Rose’s siblings Joe, Helen, Kay, Mary, Francie, Annie and Tony will greet her with open arms. She remains in the hearts of her many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rose was a kind, loving, social lady who embraced everyone she met. She initiated and shared in many gatherings of family and friends all through her life. Rose was a woman ahead of her time. Her entrepreneurial sprit and keen business mind contributed to the successful operation of the Pattie House Hotel and later Rose’s Casuals in Coboconk. She was very active in many community services: president of the Senior Citizen Club, organizer of bridge tournaments and later in life, Ambassador at her nursing home.
The family would like to thank the loving and caring staff of Silverthorn for being so thoughtful and compassionate with our mom. She had some very special PSW’s and nurse’s who treated her like their own mother, and for that we are extremely grateful.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be a private family mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 40 Russell Street, Lindsay on Friday, February 26th at 1:00p.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kawartha Lakes.
