Obituary of Ronald Wilfred Pfeifer
Ron passed away peacefully in the Pasqua Hospital on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. He was predeceased by his first wife Viola; daughter Diana; parents John and Ida; and brother Leonard. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jean Kress; son Mark (Shelley), grandsons Ehren and Eric, and great-granddaughter Rosa, all of Toronto; and daughter Lori (Garnet) Dunstan of Regina; and sister Edith Thompson of Lemberg.
Ron grew up on the family farm in Lemberg, SK. After graduating, he attended Kelsey Technical School in Saskatoon, graduating as a Journeyman Automotive and Heavy-Duty Mechanic. In 1958, he began working at Canadian Motors in Regina, and in 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Viola Christoffel. Children were added to the mix in 1964, 1967 and 1970, while Ron moved up the ladder, eventually becoming Vehicles and Equipment Superintendent for SaskPower.
In 1999, Ron’s youngest, Diana was lost after a battle with cancer. This was a long, hard journey that Ron tackled in addition to being caregiver to Vi. When Viola was diagnosed in 1987 with early-onset Parkinson’s disease, Ron’s focus changed, and he devoted a great deal of time to being Vi’s caregiver and a support for many other residents of Wascana Hospital. After Vi’s passing in 2007, Ron shifted to his other passion, playing golf. He loved to spend time with friends in Arizona during winters.
In 2012, Ron’s world changed again when he met Jean, who was to become his partner for the remainder of his life. He was also enthusiastically welcomed into her large extended family. Together they enjoyed travelling in their RV and spending time visiting with their network of friends and family.
In early September, Ron was diagnosed with bile duct cancer. His battle with liver and kidney failure ended peacefully with Jean and his children by his side. Honouring Ron’s request, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place after the pandemic. Those so wishing to make donations, in memory of Ron, may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
