Nicholson, Ron:
Ron Nicholson, jack of many trades, sweet connoisseur, craftsman of the land and dabbler in the art of catching the big one has died on August 15th, 2021.
Throughout his life, Ron wore many hats literally and figuratively. His early love of all things with motors shaped his life, from his membership in the Chancellors Car Club to attending tractor pulls, driving tractor-trailers, bombing around on snowmobiles and fishing on boats. Eventually, he opened his own repair shop at the farm where he fixed cars, tractors and pretty much anything someone asked him to. Even if these tasks were done, begrudgingly, he was always willing to lend a hand.
It was time spent at both his Grandparents’ farms in Huron County that sparked his passion for farming. He was a mere eight years old when he moved to Banat Road and was driving a tractor in the fields while helping out at a local turkey barn. By the time he was a teen, he was working at the local dairy farm. It must have been a dream come true to have his own where he raised beef, pigs and even chickens, sowing the fields with various crops each year. This love of farming stayed with him throughout his life, barely a month before death knocked he was helping friends load cattle and planting the fields.
One constant thing that lasted throughout Ron’s numerous near-death experiences of a chainsaw cutting his face wide-open, almost dying before a transplant, and cancer ravaging his body was his love for sweets. He even memorized a chocolate cake recipe as a teen so he could surprise his sweetheart, who later became the love of his life of 49 years. If you were lucky, he’d make this chocolate cake for you and possibly share the recipe, but only by telling you as you were measuring.
Ron worked hard and played hard. He was more often than not, the life of the party, whether it was at the card table for a game of euchre or hosting the annual Boxing Day shindig. When time permitted, he could be found with a camper or boat in tow off to his favourite fishing haunts with family and friends.
Ron wasn’t one to mince words. He shot straight from his mouth, telling you like it is. It was often his way or the highway. Surprisingly, cats, babies or kids who wanted a tractor ride could soften the tough exterior making him putty in their hands.
Ron lived life like he left it, challenging as a bull and with tenacious strength.
His spirit will be carried on through his wife Kerry, two children Shannon and Amanda, three siblings Gayle Hobson (David), Pat Nicholson and Tom Nicholson (Sue) and extended family and friends from every walk of life.

A special thank you to Dr. Augustin Nguyen, for his care 10 years ago that enabled Ron to get on the transplant list, UHN and the Trillium Gift of Life who gave him a second chance. More recently, thanks to the 6th floor St. Mary’s Hospital staff, the Palliative Team, incredible PSW’s, caring staff and volunteers at Lisaard House for their patience, compassion and support.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, his ashes will be united with the great outdoors. A Celebration of life will be held in the future.
