Obituary of Ronald « Joe » Forbes Avey
Avey, Ronald “Joe”
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph “Joe” Ronald Forbes Avey. Joe was in his 85th year, and leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of 64 years, Doreen Avey (nee Money) and children Frank Avey (Maryse), Sue Arsenault (predeceased by Bill), Beth Avey, Michele Allison (Peter), Kelly Avey (David Thorne), his sister Teresa Avey, 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, along with a large extended family and many close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Mark Hadysh. Surrounded by family in his last days, he took his last breath on the palliative care unit at the Brantford General Hospital on Monday, November 22, 2021. He was devoted to his family and friends, always putting others’ needs before his own. In his early days, he enjoyed swimming, was a lifeguard and scuba diver and also enjoyed playing both hockey and golf. A devout Catholic, he was an active member of St. Basil’s Parish, receiving his last rites before his passing. Those that knew him were impressed with his impeccable work ethic during his lengthy career at White Farm Equipment, Koehring Waterous and Amoco Fabrics. Christian Island was not only a second (summer) home, but a place he felt solace, and always enjoyed time with family and friends. Later in life, he kept busy with reading, solving puzzles and he didn’t often miss an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. He had a true appreciation for music, especially BBSN and Frank Sinatra could often be heard in his presence, even in his final days. Special thanks to the nurses and staff in Emergency, CCU and Palliative Care at the Brantford General Hospital. Family and friends will be received at the McCleister Funeral Home on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Covid restrictions require those to wear masks and practice social distancing. A private service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Those invited must show proof of double vaccination for admittance. Cremation to follow. In his honour, memorial donations may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre or the Brantford General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.
