Roland’s Obituary
Gollan, Roland David – age 76 of Seafoam, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in New Glasgow and raised in Seafoam, he was a son of the late John and Abbie (Sutherland) Gollan. Rollie grew up on the family farm, helping with all aspects of farm life. He was a member of the Seafoam Calf Club and spent many years showing his 4-H calves and showing the family cattle at the Pictou Exhibition and enjoyed many years pulling on the tug-of-war teams. He started fishing with his dad and bother, Manceal, at age 16. Between farming, fishing, gathering Irish Moss, or working in the woods or in the garden, he was always busy. He was always willing to lend a helping hand or to share his garden with friends and neighbours, loved picking strawberries and worked very hard to cut his own firewood. He could often be seen walking in Seafoam and the surrounding areas with his faithful dog, Dudley. Rollie had a special way with his dogs and now he and Dudley will be walking together again. Rollie is survived by his wife of almost 45 years, Shirley (Brown); daughter, Stacy Gollan (Allan MacKinnon), Wentworth; grandchildren, Rebecca (Evan Cooke) and Ryan, and their father, John McKay; and a great granddaughter due on July 6 whom he wanted to meet; sisters, Verna (Gord) Chesney, Woodstock, Ontario; Jean Langille, Seafoam; Mary (Glenn) McGinnis, Phoenix, Az.; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by special brother-in-law, Greg Brown; brother, Manceal; sisters, Edna and husband, Hap Day; Audrey and husband, Jackie MacLeod; brother-in-law, Willis Langille; niece, Yvonne Watt. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held. Memorial donations to the SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
