Robert Winston Chapman Tuesday September 28th 2021

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dad and brother, Mr. Robert Winston Chapman at the Good Samaritan Clearwater Centre in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the age of 74 years. Robert was born on October 25, 1946 in Linden, Alberta to Edward Arthur Winston Chapman and Frieda (Baerg) Chapman. Robert spent most of his childhood years growing up in Brooks, Alberta. He had three brothers and four sisters, of which he was the oldest. He took his schooling in the Brooks Schools from grades 1 to 10. He gave his heart to God in his youth and serving God remained his lifelong focus. Robert married Dale Oscar on June 16, 1979, in Wetaskawin, Alberta. This home was blessed with two children, Jason Edward and April Marie. Robert lived many places throughout his life, including spending some time with his uncle and aunt Arnold, and Anne Baerg. When he was in his teens, he continued to treasure them in his older years. He did carpentry in his earlier years in Linden. The family spent about five years in Abbotsford; where Robert worked with his roofing business, as well as a security guard. Our parents fostered children in a home care setting in Gwynne, Alberta. He worked for a time on a mink farm. Another venture he tried was detailing at an Auto Dealership in Wetaskawin, Alberta. Later, he was a caregiver for a quadriplegic man in Fort Vermillion, where they lived for one and a half years. He operated his own yard care service in Alhambra area, and then worked as a farm hand, driving machinery after retiring. His greatest hobby interest was electronics and he loved to spend time reading about, and putting together electronic devices, as well as doing some sideline electrical work. When he was a teen, he brought home one of the earliest calculators that were made which fascinated the rest of the household. Robert had several very serious illnesses in his life starting at 19 years old. He spent nine months in the Brooks Hospital with kidney disease, and during this time, his youngest sister Rose was born. He spent different times in the hospital for heart conditions and six months in the Foothills Hospital, and in rehab in 2016 after a traumatic esophageal rupture. This all took a toll on his strength, but he was always determined to work his way back to health once he felt better. He bravely carried on even when he was so tired. Robert was good with animals, training dogs, and even a budgie. Robert always enjoyed good gospel music and as a young man, he would have tapes of his uncle and cousins singing. He and his new wife sang a duet at their wedding reception. When he was living in the care home these last three months he loved listening to the music and lyrics of old time gospel singing. Robert had a big warm smile and a loving, teasing nature. He gave generous strong hugs to his loved ones. Family was important very important to him. The staff in the care homes he lived in, in Eckville and in Rocky Mountain House, loved his smiling and friendly ways. Left to cherish beautiful memories are his children, Jason Edward Chapman and April Marie Chapman, along with three brothers and four sisters, Charlie (Mary Jane) Chapman, Garry (Lynne) Chapman, Eva (Betty) Chapman, Marilyn (Stephen) Friesen, Alice Chapman, Allan Chapman, Rose Watkins (Paul Richardson) and many nieces and nephews. His parents and one great niece predeceased him. Many thanks to the Good Samaritan Clearwater Centre staff and Dr. Dowling for their loving care of our dad and brother, Robert.
