Obituary
ROBERT GORDON STOKOE
July 10th – 1924
April 24th – 2021
Bob & his six siblings grew up on a ranch just south of Altario. Alberta. He now joins his
sisters Jean, Elizabeth, & Dorothy a long with his brothers James, Donald, & Charles. Uncle
Bob was the last Stokoe left from his generation. Bob had a wonderful career working for
Alberta Government Telephones in the Brooks & Bassano area. He retired from AGT after
working over 31 years. Bob’s true longevity came from his humour, & love of people & all
animals. He was always there to help with a heart of gold, whether to lend a hand or through
his many charities. He was quick with his jokes, but like a true Stokoe, by the time he reaches
the punch line he would be laughing so hard, you could never catch the punch line. Bob was
so proud to be Brook’s town Santa, where he played this role for many years. So many people
have told me about there fond memories of watching Bob coming down main street on the
Christmas float in full Santa attire. I know it was Bob’s true highlight every year. Animals were
a very important part of Bob’s life, always a major charitable contributor to the S.P.C.A. Bob
was also known around Brooks as the man who owned two beautiful White Samoyed Dogs,
Nik & Toke which of course fit the Santa role to a tee. He wouldn’t hesitate to bring in any stray
cats into his household, making sure they had all proper care & vet visits.
Bob has had so many friends around the Brooks / Bassano area over the years, to his local
friends at the local Tim Horton’s, to his strong friendship with the Schelske Family, to Len his old
time neighbour & to the people of Brooks & Bassano for there love, support & friendship. To all
the care giver’s, nurses, health care workers at Brook’s Hospital & Newbrook Lodge for your
love & caring making Bob’s last days tolerable.
Bob leaves behind many nieces & nephews & extended family. Bob’s smile, his humour, his love
& support will be greatly missed by his family.
Bob chose to be cremated & didn’t want a service. Bob’s ashes along with his sisters ashes &
Brother In law, Harvey & Dorothy Chiswell’s ashes will be spread by family at the Lake Newell
area where Bob had his cabin where many summer days we spent by family.
If you care to make a donation in Bob’s name, his charities were, The Heart & Stroke Foundation,
The Alberta Diabetes Foundation, Canadian Wildlife Federation, & the SPCA Brooks District
