Obituary
Robert Heasman “Bob” Watling
1950-2021
Robert Heasman “Bob” Watling of Moncton and formerly of Chatham Head, passed away suddenly on Friday, August 27th 2021, at the age of 71. Born in Chatham, NB, he was the son of the late Archibald and Sylvia (Heasman) Watling.
Bob was well known for his big humour, his generosity and his love of all things automotive. He spent tens of thousands of hours over the years “souping up”, “decking out”, washing, waxing and detailing his many vehicles, including his first love – the red 1980 Z 28 Camaro with black interior. In most recent years, if Bob wasn’t at home; perfecting his vast display of die cast models & NASCAR memorabilia, working on a new project in his basement “shop” or enjoying a hot cup of tea on the front porch with Erma, you would likely find him perusing the aisles of an automotive shop or at the car dealership, maneuvering the salesmen to come up with a plan to get him his ideal corvette.
Bob would agree that he was a “Jack of all trades, master of none”, holding many positions over the years. He worked underground at Heath Steele Mines, he drove for St. John Ambulance out of Chatham and for the past 14 years worked night shift at Home Depot in Moncton where his manager related “this store will never be the same without Bob Watling”. Bob had dreams of retiring soon.
Bob will be missed dearly, by his wife, Erma Long. His memories will be fondly cherished by his children: Lisa Taylor (Mark) of Tennessee and Kris (Kelly) of Miramichi, as well as their mother, Joan Watling. He will also be lovingly remembered by his two stepsons: Cory (Jana) Long and Trevor (Joanne) Long. Bob’s favourite role in life was being Grandfather to Samantha and Logan and “Gumpy” to Campbell, Tamara, and Tyler.
Bob is also survived by brothers: Lloyd (Sheila) of Moncton and Frankie (Ona) of Miramichi; his sister, Beverly of Saskatchewan; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; sister, Jean Ingersoll; and brother-in- law, David Ingersoll.
The family will hold a private graveside service and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.
At request of the family, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. John Ambulance or to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adams.fh.ca
