Robert Bastie
August 3, 1934 – December 18, 2021
Robert Bastie – August 3, 1934 – December 18, 2021- It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected death of Robert Bastie (known to most by Bob/Bobbie) in Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, QEII on December 18, 2021 at the age of 87. Dad left home at the young age of 14 to work on the boats on The Great Lakes to help support his family after his father passed away. From there he travelled the world working on different ships until making the Canadian National Railway his lasting career for 37 years as a Locomotive Engineer. A job he was very proud of. He was also a member of CFB Halifax C&PO’s/WO’s & Sgts’ Mess for over 50 years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Faye (Flick) Bastie of almost 60 years (December 30th would have been their 60th wedding anniversary); his daughter, Sharon Scattolon (Romano) Cole Harbour; his grandchildren who he thought the world of, Robert (Alicia) and Amanda (Patrick), along with his great grandchildren Maverick & Royce.
Also surviving is his sister Sharon Schelleman (Wayne) who shared a very special bond with her and several nieces and nephews; Cherie, Robbie, Fred, Michelle and Kathy. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Emmeline Peitzche (Langille/Bastie), Fred Bastie and his stepfather Harry Peitzche; his brother; Ferdie (Dottie) Bastie and a brother John in infancy.
There will be no service at this time due to COVID and at a later date the family will hold a gathering. In closing, the family would like to thank the staff of 4 East at the Dartmouth General Hospital for their compassion and support while he awaited for his room in Camp Hill. We will never forget how you looked after him. Also, a thank you to the staff of 6 East at Camp Hill, especially “Novella” for making sure he always had a wonderful meal and always asking him if he had enough.
“Gone, but will never be forgotten”
