WARREN, Richard Keith “Rick”
I regret to announce the passing of my husband, Richard Keith “Rick” Warren on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born December 24, 1951, in Toronto, ON, he was the son of the late Keith and June Warren.
Rick grew up in North York, Toronto. He studied journalism and applied communication at Fanshawe College and Seneca College. Later in his life, he studied political science and sociology at Augustana College in Camrose, AB and at St. F. X. University. Rick moved to Edmonton, AB in his 20’s where he spent25 years.
Five years after the love of his life moved home to Cape Breton, Rick followed her and found home in Cape Breton for the last 18 years. He loved the people, the Celtic music and the culture.
Rick worked in radio and newspaper. In Alberta, he was involved in many social justice activities including Amnesty International, Tools for Peace, Project Ploughshares, UNICEF, the Salvadoran Refugee Community, inner-city youth, Development in Action and the Mother Teresa Habitat Institute Committee.
Rick was an active volunteer with Coastal Community Radio in its early days. He was an active member of the St. Peter’s United Church. Rick and Sandra enjoyed extensive travelling, walking the beaches of Cape Breton and attending many festivals and concerts over the years.
Rick is survived by his wife and best friend, Sandra Morrison, St. Peter’s; mother, June Warren, Oakville, ON; sister, Cathy; sister-in-law, Anna Deganis, Dartmouth; and several cousins in Ontario.
He was predeceased by his birth mother, Edith (Currie) Warren; father, Keith Joseph Warren; father and mother-in-law, Alex and Ruth Morrison, St. Peter’s.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or St. Peter’s United Church, St. Peter’s.
