Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) W. E. Bowron of Calgary who slipped away peacefully at Foothills Hospital on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the age of 90. Dick was born in Biggar Saskatchewan, the second child of Richard and Ada Bowron. Upon graduation from High school in 1949, he began working full-time for the Biggar Independent newspaper. He married Helen (Speltz) of Eston Saskatchewan in 1958 and together they raised 4 children. In 1965 he made a career change to the Department of Transport (Flight Service) which involved being stationed in remote areas such as Dawson City YT, Fort St. John BC, Inuvik NWT, finally culminating his career as Station Manager at Calgary AB. He retired after approximately 27 years of service and enjoyed many wonderful years traveling and spending time with his family. Dick was a music aficionado, reader, crossword enthusiast, builder of endless model railroad designs and wooden aircraft. Dick could whistle any tune, any time, and often did, accompanied with his guitar. Those that knew him will miss his gentle, quiet spirit, his incredible intellect and dry witty humour, his passion for political debate, and his moral conviction. He will be missed by his surviving family; 3 sisters Jessie (Howie) Dhal, Barbara (Harry) Beirnes, and Shirley (John) Kleinsasser and his children, Lori (Dennis) Thomson, Gregg (Linda) Bowron, Jeff (Lynn) Bowron, and Doug (Jill) Bowron, as well as his 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dick was predeceased by his wife Helen and his granddaughter Michaila Bowron.
