Obituary
After a long and lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s, Reta Elizabeth Lawrence (Smith) passed away peacefully on November 4, 2021 with her loving daughter Cindy at her side.
Reta was raised in Bedford, Nova Scotia and then made the move to Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia shortly after marrying the love of her life Kenneth Lawrence where they raised their three children.
She loved her family dearly and was the glue that kept all the cousins, aunt and uncles, extended family members in touch with one another by calling them on the phone or hosting big family gatherings. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren, she had such a special relationship with all of them and left them with wonderful memories of always going to Nanny and Grandad’s house for sleep overs, banana splits, playing card games or just sitting and talking with her as she was always interested in all they had to say.
Everyone who met Reta was greeted with the most beautiful smile and kind words. She was always positive and so happy to have people around. Nothing brought her greater pleasure than sharing her smile and « Goodies » (especially her chocolate chip cookies) with the neighbor’s, her co-workers, her fellow parishioners and especially all her family members as she was always baking every time you went to her house.
She was a regular and faithful member of the Parish of St. John the Evangelist in Lower Sackville. She was a dedicated member of the Altar Guild in her earlier years then the Ladies Auxiliary and the Ways and Means committee where she participated in many craft sales, penny auctions and church suppers.
Reta is survived by daughters Linda Lawrence and Cindy Lawrence and son David Lawrence (Erika). She was also the proud grandmother (Nanny) to grandchildren Jonathan Mayhew, Amanda Mayhew Marsh (Padraig), Christine Rose (Matthew), Steven Marr (Emily), Bryan Marr (Ami) and great-grandchildren Makenzie Rose, Makayla Rose, Maddison Rose, Chloe Marr and Theo Mayhew Marsh.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Kenneth Roswell Lawrence.
If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada and/or Kensington Gardens.
Private services have taken place.
