It is with great sadness that the family of Reijo Aukusti Martikkala announce his passing on Friday June 11, 2021 at Sudbury at the age of 84. Reijo was born in Finland to Matti and Rauha Martikkala, both predeceased. Beloved husband/honey of Sinikka Martikkala(predeceased) of 64 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Jari (Eija), Harri (predeceased), Asko (Kathy), Pirjo (Ben) and Marju (predeceased).He treasured his grandchildren Meliisa (Eyjólfur), Jonna (Mike), Jason (Josée), Kris (Monica), Eric (Laura), Jessica (Scott), Aaron, Derek, Kerri (Ben) and Candice. Much loved Pappa (Great grandfather) to Jack, Avery, Nikolai, Aiden, Kaisen, Ellie, Logan, Kiya, Ezra, Layla, James and Carly. Dear brother to Raija, Tarja and Terttu of Finland. Pappa loved to eat the pulla (Finnish coffee bread) and rye bread that his beloved honey baked. He cherished spending time at camp. In his younger days he played baseball and enjoyed cross country skiing. He was a faithful member of the Sudbury Siion Finnish Church. He will be missed by family and friends in Finland and Canada. A celebration of life will be held at a later time. A special “Thank you” to Dr. Walton and the Hospice Palliative Care Team, Bayshore nurses Lyne and Theresa, PSWs Maggie, and Edith, Linda Emms and her team from HOME and Community Care for their special compassion and care.
