Raymond’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our loved one, Raymond (Ray) Chesley Peddle, 80, of Ladle Cove. Ray passed away peacefully in the presence of family, on Thursday morning, September 30, 2021, at James Paton Memorial Hospital in Gander.
Ray was born on October 19, 1940, in Musgrave Harbour, to Stanley Peddle and Eva (Chaulk), and was little brother to Carson. At the very tender age of two his mom passed, and he was taken into the loving home of his mom’s sister, ‘Aunt Lucy’, and her husband, ‘Uncle Hiram’ Shelley, in Aspen Cove, who had two small children of their own (Garfield and Mary). Just a few years later, big brother Carson also became part of this loving family.
On February 20, 1970, Ray married the love of his life, Patsy (West) in Ladle Cove, and in a few short years, three children blessed the union: Todd, Trent, and Tasha.
In addition to his family, Ray had a passion for cooking, which he leveraged into a very successful career. Over the years he worked in various work camps for the Department of Highways, as well as at Hotel Gander. In later years, he worked for Abitibi-Price in various lumber wood camps and lodges in Labrador and on the Gander River, where he cooked for many distinguished dignitaries and guests.
Away from work, Ray cherished time spent with Patsy and the kids at their cabin in Gull Pond. In his spare time, he also enjoyed hobbies such as hunting, fishing, and playing guitar.
Ray was also a devoted Jehovah’s Witness. He was an active member of the Aspen Cove-Lumsden congregation for many years.
Ray was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley and Eva Peddle; step-parents, Hiram and Lucy Shelley; step-brother, Garfield Shelley; step-sisters, Mary Mouland and Violet Brace; mother and father-in-law, Annie and Walter West; brother-in-law, William Tulk; and nephew, Robbie West.
Left to mourn are: Patsy, his loving wife of 50 years; his sons Todd (Marlene) and Trent (Nikki), and his daughter Tasha (Greg); his beloved grandchildren, Ashton, Summer, and Toby, whom he was so very proud of; his best friend and brother Carson (Verna), as well as a large circle of beloved family and friends, to whom he was always willing to provide a helping hand and offer support wherever needed.
The family would like to extend thanks to the healthcare workers at James Paton Memorial Hospital, homecare workers at his home in Ladle Cove, the staff at Golden Years Estates in Gander, as well as both Kittiwake and Stacey’s Funeral Homes for their care and compassion.
The family would also like to thank everyone who have sent messages, flowers and food during this very difficult time. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s – Dementia Society of Canada, or a charity of one’s choice.
