PHYLLIS LUCILLE EPP
It is with heavy hearts and sadness that Phyllis’ family members announce her passing on April 11, 2021 after a brief battle with cancer.
Phyllis was born on November 14, 1932 to Gerhard and Mary Epp in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. She was the eldest of seven children.
Phyllis graduated from training at City Hospital in Saskatoon in 1954 as a Registered Nurse and in 1965 received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Saskatchewan. Her nursing career spanned many decades. She spent the majority of her life in Toronto where she worked as a nursing manager both at Mt. Sinai and Sunnybrook Hospitals. Phyllis was also actively involved in many areas of volunteer work. She volunteered for many years at a distress centre, recorded books for the visually impaired, knitted layettes for premature infants and for the last number of years was the Gift Shop Convenor at Sunnybrook Hospital. She was an active and longtime member of St. Ansgar Lutheran Church.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Gerhard and Mary Epp and her brothers Gerald and Leslie. She is survived by her sister Rhonda Bourhis (Tom), Randy Epp (Sally), Tom Epp (Sue) and Glenn Epp (Kendall) as well as twelve nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews.
To know Phyllis was to experience generosity, kindness and good will. She spent her lifetime offering hope to others less fortunate and in so doing positively touched many lives.
Phyllis’s cremated remains will be interred at St. John’s Columbarium in Saskatoon. A celebration of life will be held at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, Toronto when COVID restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers kindly consider donating to a local charity of your choice where less fortunate people’s needs may be met. This would be in keeping with Phyllis’ wishes.
