It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing
of Peter James Dowd following a lengthy illness at the age of 76, on
Sunday August 1, 2021 at The Moncton Hospital. Born in Moncton, he was
the son of the late Dr. John P. and Mildred (Larracey)
Dowd.
Peter was a man of great faith, a member of St.
Bernard’s church and a member of 3rd and 4th degrees with
Assembly 618 of Council 1310 with the Knights of Columbus. He retired
from CN in Winnipeg as a carman welder in 1999. His spare time was
spent with beekeeping, Acadian and Irish genealogy, local history,
storytelling, and curling at MCA. He was a family man and enjoyed
keeping tabs on his children and grandchildren’s
activities.
He is survived by his wife for 52 years,
Thérèse (Goguen); two daughters: Katherine Dowd
(Rick) and Margaret Melanson (Norm); two sons: Peter Thomas and John
William (Tracy); six grandchildren: Cassandra, Corey, Rylee, Josef,
Rowan and Rhett; as well as his niece and nephews. He was the last
surviving member of his immediate family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Dr.
John T. Dowd, and his infant brother, Paul.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) Friday from 7
to 9 pm only. Due to the pandemic, face coverings are required and
social distancing regulations are in effect. The funeral mass will be
celebrated on Saturday August 14 at 11 am at St. Bernard’s
R.C. Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton. Due to the pandemic, face
coverings are recommended and social distancing regulations are in
effect. Interment will be in St. Lawrence O’Toole parish
cemetery in Irishtown. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Peter, a
contribution to Parkinson Canada would be greatly
appreciated.
