Known as Joe Payea
July 13, 1946- March 13, 2021
Joe passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 74. Joe was born in Hazleton, BC to William and Margaret Payea. It is within this beautiful landscape of Hazelton where he grew up with his eight brothers and sisters later moving to Smith, Alberta. Joe graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Arts and Economics and with a Master’s degree in Accounting. He later moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he met his wife Christine Payea. It is also in Edmonton where he met Joe and Iola Bots who became family to him. Working alongside them with many endeavours, it is at United Cycle Properties where Joe eventually retired. In retirement, Joe found immense joy from being a part of his grandbabies Emily and Andrew’s day-to-day lives. They were “the apple of his eye”. Joe loved to garden and was working towards becoming a Chef. Joe will be remembered for his strength, determination, loyalty, and integrity. He will forever be remembered by his wife Christine, and his children Jamie Houssian, Amber Houssian and David Holowka, and Earl Payea. He loved his grandchildren Emily and Andrew, William, Alex, Mitchell, and Lillian. He will also be remembered by his eight brothers and sisters Marie, (Bruce), Linda, Peggy, Myron, Jean, Ken, and Jim; along with many nieces and nephews and extended family, friends, and colleagues.
Once it is safe to come together again, we will have a gathering to celebrate his life.
Rest easy Dad. We have always loved you, and always will.
