Obituary
The family sadly announces the passing of Pauline Nowicki of Hinton, Alberta on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at the age of 89.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband Joe, her daughter-in-law Pat Nowicki, and her siblings and their spouses Mike (Nancy) Nash, Irene (Mike) Sereda, Mary (Joe) Sherbanuk, Kay (John) Elko, John (Josie) Nahaiowski, Nancy (George) MacCallum, Peter (Amy) Nash, Anna (Tom) Purves, Eva Nahaiowski, and Harold (Ann) Nash. She is survived by her children Carol (Ralph) of Edmonton, Donna (Lee) Wiebe of Surrey, BC, Howard (Sandra) of Hinton, Ken (Denise) of Edmonton, Sandra (Elmer) Klatt of Hinton, and Rick (Helen) of Edmonton. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Arnold Nowicki, Michael (JoAnna) Wiebe and their daughter Ava, Corey (Kathryn) Klatt, Sarah Nowicki, and Joe (Heather) Nowicki, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Born on a farm near Thorhild to Mathew and Anna Nahaiowski, Pauline was the second youngest of 11 children. She completed high school and went to business college in Edmonton, but her academics were cut short when her mother became ill and Pauline left school to care for her. Pauline and Joe married in 1950 and had six children. Raising her family kept her busy and once they were grown, Pauline entered the paid working world. She worked at Rahall’s Men’s Wear for a few years, followed by King Drug for 11 years, until retiring in 1989.
While raising her family, Pauline found the time to volunteer for organizations such as Group Committee (Scouts/Girl Guides), Catholic Women’s League, Hinton Share Shop, and many other charitable organizations. Pauline’s gardening and culinary skills were legendary and will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to enjoy a meal in her home. Her perogies were especially famous and a bag of frozen perogies sent home after dinner was a coveted prize.
We would like to recognize the extraordinary care given to Pauline by her children Sandra, Carol, and Howard who enabled her to remain happily in her home tending to her garden until her hospitalization. During her hospital stay Pauline was very well cared for by Dr. Martin and the nursing staff at the Hinton General Hospital with a special mention of Marilyn Lodder. You made her last days more comfortable and for that we thank you.
In accordance with COVID restrictions, a private funeral will be held on June 19, 2021 at Our Lady of the Foothills Catholic Church in Hinton.
