Pauline Cohen
(née Friedman) It is with deep sadness that the family of Pauline Cohen announces her passing on April 3, 2021. It was a mitzvah that her precious circle of two children and grandson were able to spend some time together holding her hands and telling her how much she was loved before she parted peacefully in the sleep that followed. Beloved wife of Louis Cohen for forty-four years, before he passed in 2001. She leaves her daughter Ellen, son Jeffrey, and her beloved grandson Raphael, and she will be united with the apple of her eye, her late son David Richard. One of the wonderful things that came her way late in life was a beautiful relationship with Al Migicovsky, her partner until she was afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease. She was a devoted sister and sister-in-law to Robert and Phyllis Friedman, aunt to Howard, Stephen and Andrea Friedman, and Ernie Kositsky. Devoted daughter of the late Gussie and the late Irving Friedman. Pauline was especially fond of her close-knit family of cousins, Bill and the late Marilyn Schreiber, and the late Edith and Mel Marshall.
Pauline was born in Montreal and grew up on the Outremont side of Hutchison Street as she liked to refer to it. She was a legal secretary until she started her family, however her real claim to fame was being an amazing “balabusta”, a remarkable homemaker. Her cooking and baking were legendary, and her greatest joy in life was feeding the family and friends assembled around her dining table.
Her children would like to recognize the exceptional care given to Pauline during her years at Maimonides Geriatric Centre, where she was blessed to be in the hands of such a loving and devoted staff. They offer their deepest gratitude to her wonderful caregiver, aptly named Joy Hope. Thanks go out as well to the nurturing team at the Alzheimer’s Group who created a warm home away from home for Pauline. It should be noted that she left on a Shabbat, on the days between the beginning and end of the High Holy days of Passover, Chol Hamoed, and on Easter weekend, going to meet her maker like a queen. A private graveside service will take place at the Eternal Gardens Cemetery, where she will take her place between her husband and son. Shivah strictly private. Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer Groupe (A.G.I.), by calling (514) 485-7233. A zoom link will be made available on the Paperman’s website.
