Paul Hudspith Friday August 13th 2021

Paul Hudspith, husband and father, died Friday 13th, 2021, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
Paul Hudspith was born in 1966 in Toronto, Ontario, to parents John and Sue Hudspith, and brother to Eric Husdspith. He graduated from the University of Waterloo as a Civil Engineer in 1990, where he met his wife Francine St-Denis. They met in fourth year and it was love at first sight. They were married two years later. They have been inseparable since the beginning, and have gone on endless adventures together. They embarked on a year long caribbean sailing trip a year after they met, and continued to travel the world together while raising 2 kids.
Even with a distinguished career and hobbies, the most important thing to Paul was his family. He made sure to always leave time for his family. Paul was home every night before dinner, participated in his kids’ school work, coached soccer teams, was at every concert, camp pick up and was always there for his family. His two children, Danielle and Cameron, have endless memories playing with him outside, running around downstairs, or playing made up games with their dad. He set a great example for his kids by always being there for them and having his family always be his priority.
Paul worked as a professional engineer for over 25 years. He was a Senior Vice President at AECOM Canada and was a highly respected industry leader who inspired everyone who knew him with his passion, his intellect, and his genuine desire to make AECOM a Great Place to Work. His warm smile, and his charismatic and approachable management style fostered an environment where everyone on the team felt comfortable, supported and encouraged. He truly cared about the people he worked with, and in return they truly cared for, respected and appreciated him
Paul was also a talented musician. He grew up playing various instruments, but was drawn to the cello, banjo, and piano. At 12 years old, he won the Canadian Banjo Competition and played a few times on the Tommy Hunter show. He even considered studying music at university, but decided to pursue engineering instead. Once he established his professional career, he returned to his passion in music. He was a member of the PASKKE String Quartet, principal cellist of the York Symphony Orchestra, and occasionally played for the Mississauga Symphony Orchestra. He passed his love for music to his family by making music a big part of their home and lives growing up.
Paul was great at everything he took on and set his mind to. Besides his career, music, and family, he had countless other passions and talents. Paul was an impressive cross country runner, running 10 km in 29 min and 30 sec. He also was a great skier, winning a few races and spending a few years as a Canadian Ski patroller. Other hobbies Paul excelled in were cycling, water skiing, wood craftsmanship and sailing. One of Paul’s biggest hobbies was golf. Though he started playing regularly in his mid 30s, Paul’s need for perfection led him to win many tournaments, including a couple at King’s Riding where he was a member.
In July 2018, Paul was diagnosed with Glioblastoma. Even in the face of this life changing diagnosis, he remained positive and grateful for his life. Paul was committed to medical research and was willing to be one of the first participants in a world-first trial at Sunnybrook. Although it placed real demands on him physically and emotionally, he never shied away from it. Paul went beyond the trial, he reached out and spoke with other potential clinical trial participants, to motivate and share life experiences. INSIGHTEC, the medical technology innovator, produced a documentary on Paul’s journey with GBM. He was also a guest speaker at a press release for Sunnybrook’s Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre, where he chose to share personal details of his journey to generate hope and raise funds.
Paul has touched and impacted so many lives in every aspect of his life. He was caring, thoughtful, loving and will be missed dearly.
