Renaud, Paul Francis:
May 16, 1934 – November 24, 2021
A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, colleague and friend, Paul Francis Renaud passed away on November 24, 2021, leaving behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Diana (nee Gauthier), son Daniel (Debbie) Renaud of Langley, BC; daughters Alison (Craig) Hendry of Waterloo, Erica (Miguel) DaSilva of Sante Fe, NM, and Johanna Renaud of Toronto. His cherished grandchildren, Luc and Cassandra Renaud of Langley, BC, will miss their Grandpa dearly. Paul also leaves behind his sisters (and best friends) Therese Hoffman and Audrey (Jack) Ball and his sisters-in-law Jocelyn (David) Gauthier-Kennedy of Kitchener-Waterloo, and Claire Gauthier of Montreal. Paul also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, W.P. and Marie Renaud, his brother Bill (Donna) Renaud and brother-in-law John Hoffman, all of Kitchener, and brothers-in-law Ivan Gauthier of Ottawa and David Gauthier of Montreal.
Paul was born in Kitchener on May 16, 1934 and attended St. Jerome’s High School, Kitchener; St. Michael’s College School, Toronto; Assumption University, Windsor and McMaster University, Hamilton.
He will be remembered as an incredible teacher, coach, artist, avid reader, crossword enthusiast and dedicated sports fan. Paul loved his teaching time in Fort Francis where he lived on a houseboat with his best bud, « Easy Ed ». He also met the love of his life Diana during his time there. Married in 1966, they moved to Baden-Baden, Germany, where he taught and travelled for the next 3 years. They enjoyed skiing the Alps, bullfights in Spain, camel riding in Morocco, Oktoberfesting in Munich, and cruising in Turkey and Greece. Soon they welcomed four children, and raised them to be interested in the world and to pursue education, sports and the arts. He was the family chauffeur and the number #1 fan and referee critic at his children sports events. His artistic flair included his passions for oil painting, home and garden design, and decorating. Favorite family memories include time at the cottage in Huntsville and nighttime swims with his sidekick Rusty.
In his long career at University Heights Secondary School, his dedication to vocational education and coaching enriched the lives of many students and created lasting friendships with his fellow teachers. In his retirement, he made regular travels with his children, visiting British Columbia, New Mexico and Florida. He also volunteered with Rotary taking an international group of high school students across Canada over multiple summers. Paul was always a great supporter of buying local, and made seeking out the next pie, sausage or bottle of maple syrup a great adventure.
