Obituary
It is with heavy and broken hearts that Marilyn, Patrick, and Aryn announce the passing of their much-loved husband and father on December 5, 2021. He died as he lived, in his home, surrounded by the love of his family.
Pat was born in Myrnam, Alberta and spent much of his childhood in St. Paul. After graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Finance), he spent 6 years as co-owner, alongside his brother Perry, of the Denim Den franchise in St. Paul. In 1987, he and Marilyn moved to Lethbridge where he became a dedicated and accomplished Investment Advisor for over 30 years, first at Richardson Greenshields, then at TD Waterhouse until his retirement in 2019. He was an exceptional athlete and an avid fan of football, baseball, hockey, and golf, passing on his love of sports and travel, his insurmountable work ethic, and his strong family values to Patrick and Aryn. He was their role model, their mentor, their confidante, and their stronghold, and was so deeply proud of their many accomplishments. For Marilyn, he was a devoted and caring husband, the love of her life and soul mate of 34 years, and her steadfast rock that unremittingly supported her through life’s challenges and opportunities. Family was Pat’s life passion and behind everything he stood for.
Pat is survived by his wife (Marilyn), his son (Patrick), his daughter (Aryn & fiancé, Warren), his brothers (Perry & Percy), and his mother (Pauline).
He was tragically predeceased by his twin sisters (Patsy & Peggy) on Christmas Eve of 1977, and by his father (Pete) in 2008.
Marilyn, Patrick, and Aryn extend special thanks to the many family members, friends, colleagues, physicians, and caregivers who provided support to them and to Pat during the last many months of his debilitating illness. He was taken much too soon and while we will never know why, we take comfort in knowing that love and precious memories will outlast the pain of grief.
A private family service will be held at a later date, at the graveside of Pat’s beloved twin sisters.
In memory of Pat, we ask that you treat everyone with kindness, and support organizations such as Lethbridge Home Care (AHS), the Canadian Cancer Society, STARS, and the Canadian Red Cross.
How does one, Survive the death of your life mate?
How does one, Wake up every morning alone, when it’s so natural to seek a sense if he is awake?
How does one, Live the day, still expecting to have a conversation with him?
How does one, Navigate the weeks, unfolding from each day alone instead of shared with him?
How does one decide what to do, When what to do depended on what he wanted too?
How does one, Prepare a meal that is not taking, his likes in to consideration
How does one, Go to sleep at night without saying “good night” to him?
How does one, Learn to do all the things he took care of?
How does one, Parent adult children without problem solving with him?
How does one, Welcome grand babies into the world without grandpa?
How does one, Travel without the driver, and without the companion,
that made the trip more special because it was shared?
How does one, do a solo journey, when growing old together was THE PLAN? How does one?
