Norma’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Norma O’Quinn on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2021 at the age of 90 years.
Norma Pinsent came to Stephenville at the age of 19 when her family moved here from Corner Brook. It was here that she met her husband, Patrick O’Quinn, of Kippens and raised 11 children surrounded by his brothers, sisters and their children.
Mom was an avid reader. Ensuring that each of her children got an education became a priority for her. She never missed a single event held by the school until all her children graduated from high school
For many years she was involved in the Saint Anne’s Guild and St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Many relatives and friends benefited from her amazing sewing and crafting skills.
We know that our mother entered Heaven’s gates with grace and humility.
She was truly loved and loved in a way that improved the lives of others.
When grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, her love and pride knew no boundaries.
Mom felt that everyone deserved a chance no matter what the circumstances. Her kindness made it clear that she was a safe confidante and she would not judge.
She leaves to mourn with many loving and precious memories: daughters: Roseann (Wayne) Russell, Germaine (Jim) LaVallee, Olive (Ron) Godin, Sherry Kane, and Loretta O’Quinn Harris; sons: Guy (Edith), Dan (Joanne), Peter (Heather), Alex, and Andrew; sisters: Lorraine (Warren) Quinton, Marie (Pete) Daughtery, and Margaret Aylward; brother Stuart Pinsent (Marilyn); 28 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Norma was predeceased by: husband Paddy; son Bruce; sister Geraldine Degrace; brothers: Cecil, Roland, and Alex Pinsent; and sons-in-law: Charlie Kane and Grant Harris.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Norma’s memory are gracefully accepted to the Bay St. George Sick Children’s Foundation.
The family would like to extend their thanks to friends and extended family, including nieces and nephews who came to see her on a moment’s notice and gratefully acknowledge all the texts, messages, and phone calls offering support. Thank you to the staff of Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital and Russell’s Ambulance Service for your care and compassion and a special acknowledgement to Dr. A McComiskey, her long-time physician.
