It is with great sadness that the family of Neva Gertrude Wentzell, 96, of Oakland announces her passing on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
Born in Gold River, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Jean (Hyson) Swinimer.
Active within her church, Neva was a member for over 74 years at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, where she was a member of the church choir, Evangelical Lutheran Women (ELW), the altar guild and supported the work of the church in any way she could.
She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, spending time at home with family and especially times spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Neva is survived by her son, Wilfred (Diane), Oakland; grandsons, Douglas (Christina) and Andrew (Ashley); great grandchildren, Noah, Catherine, Matthew, Andrew Jr. and Charlotte; sister, Rita Hiltz, Don Mills, Ontario; and sisters-in-law, Elaine Swinimer, Halifax and Doreen Wentzell, Oakland and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Lorraine Wentzell, in 2003; sisters, June (Perry) Ernst, Evelyn (Donald) Rafuse; brothers, Karl and Cecil; brothers in-law, Walter (Florence), Lawrence (Edna); Paul Wentzell and sister in-law, Bertha (Karl) Peterson.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. A private family committal service to celebrate Neva’s life will be held, Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Bayview Cemetery, Mahone Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay or to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all the staff and management of Harbour View Haven for the compassionate care shown to Neva and her family during her time there, your kindness will never be forgotten.
