In Loving Memory of
Nancy Jane Onorato Reynolds
May 30, 1922 – December 1, 2021
Nancy Reynolds passed away at Brampton Civic Hospital on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 but before her candle went out, she had burned it right down to the wick. She will be greatly missed by her four children: Tony (Susan), Jeff (Camille), Cathy, Sally (Jefferson) and their families which include ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her nieces and nephew Nancy (Onorato) Smith, Mary Jane (Reynolds) Miltner, Nicholas Reynolds and their families will also fondly remember Aunt Nancy.
Nancy’s life was not only long, it was full. In 1942, she married Larry (July 14, 1918 – March 14, 1996) in Florida and moved back to Toronto in 1946 and to Oakville soon after. In Oakville, when not moving to larger houses as the family grew, Nancy volunteered at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, wrote a column in the local newspaper “Where Sally Shops” and was a regular contributor to Mary Walpole’s column in the Globe and Mail. Nancy and Larry performed in the Community Theatre – before Larry took up acting professionally. She was also in a bridge club but the most remarkable “club” for Nancy was one that began when she was in public school. She and other girls – fourteen in all – formed the BBR – Blondes, Brunettes, and Redheads in the 1930’s that lasted all their lives. They stayed in touch as they went their separate ways and once each year, they’d have a “girls’ weekend” at a cottage at Jacksons Point. The last of these was just a few years ago. The family moved to Toronto in 1966 and Nancy’s busy-ness included her own fashion boutique, Tickled Pink, in Cabbagetown.
They moved to the Orangeville area in 1980, first to a farm near Mono Mills where Nancy and Larry celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary, then near to Orangeville. She volunteered at Headwaters Health Care Centre, was in both a bridge club and a book club and, notably, the last book club meeting was at her house in November this year where she was a lively contributor to the discussion. Nancy loved to read almost as much as she loved Blue Jays baseball. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She kept close track of all her family and friends on line, but loved it most when they’d call, or visit.
Nancy will be buried beside Larry in St. John’s Church Cemetery in Mono Township.
We thought it would be in keeping with the way she lived to celebrate Nancy with family and friends close to what would have been her 100th birthday at the end of May.
Please post thoughts or tributes on the Dods & McNair website (www.dodsandmcnair.com) and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Water First (www.waterfirst.ngo), a charity supporting clean water for indigenous communities across Canada. Nancy felt strongly about the problems these communities face with their water supply and, sipping a glass of water, she would often say “Imagine not being able to get clean drinking water.” Donations may also be made to Headwaters Health Care Foundation.
A tree will be planted in memory of Nancy in the Dods & McNair Memorial Forest at the Island Lake Conservation Area, Orangeville.
Condolences may be offered to the family at www.dodsandmcnair.com
