January 26, 1959 – March 2, 2021
With great sadness, we regret to announce the sudden passing of our daughter, sister and aunty, Nadia on Tuesday March 2, 2021, at the age of 62. She was predeceased by her mother Olga (nee Bodykevich). Left to cherish her memory are her father Atanazie (Tony) and Stepmother Janet (nee Stasiuk), sister Mary (Michael) Gnutel; twin sister Vera (Andrew) Lorenzen, of Eston, SK; brother Dmetro (Terry); brother Paul; sister Ann Klimchak (Doug) and numerous nieces and nephews.
As a young girl, Nadia resided with her family in Transcona until 1963 when they moved to Eriksdale, MB. There, they co-owned and operated the Eriksdale Hotel (with her uncle and aunty) until 1973. Moving back with her family to Winnipeg, Nadia’s teenage years were spent as a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Youth Club at Holy Eucharist Parish.
Nadia attended high school at River East Collegiate. Together with Vera, she was an active member of the Drama Club (in the Costume Department). “The Pajama Game” and “The King Of Siam” were two of the productions she was involved in. She then went on to complete the Professional Baking and Pastry course at Red River Community College becoming a Professional Baker. She worked at Gunn’s and Goodies bakeries and later in Food Services at the St Boniface Hospital. Nadia also loved baking custom cakes and pastries for her family and friends.
Nadia was highly creative and artistic. The Halloween costumes she made were stunning, transcending her into new worlds and new characters. She loved to dress up in her costumes and enjoyed going to Comicon when it came to Winnipeg.
She also had a very generous heart. She was an incredibly special sister and aunty who always made small gifts (for everyone) for every single birthday, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. It was important to her that everyone feel special and loved.
Nadia was an identical twin to our sister Vera. Even though Vera lived (many kilometers away) in Eston SK., with her husband Andrew and children (on their family farm), they would call each other often and stayed close. These phone calls and their many visits (both ways) was a great source of comfort and joy to both Nadia and Vera. They had a special bond being “twins”.
God Bless our precious “Nadgi”! We will miss that twinkle in her eye, that contagious giggle and spectacular smile which always lit up the room. We know she is already in heaven making her special gifts and baking cakes for everyone.
Cremation has taken place. This was followed by a private family service held with Fr. Michael Kwiatkowski of Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the BISHOP VELYCHKOVSKY NATIONAL MARTYR’S SHRINE gratefully accepted.
