ABBEY, Myrna (nee Friedman) It is with a mixture of deep sadness and yet the most heartfelt gratitude for a life well lived that we advise of the passing of Myrna Abbey on Friday, April 9, 2021, in Westmount, Quebec. Born in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on July 31, 1931. Devoted wife of the late Stanley Abbey. Beloved mother and mother-in-law of Tracey Abbey and Allan Greenblatt, Philip Abbey and Tina Landsman, Mitchell and Naomi. Adoring grandmother of Michael Taylor and Leah State; Seth Abbey and Avigyle Grunbaum; Erica Abbey and David Rothstein; Daniel, Megan and Jonathan Abbey. Blessed to have been great-grandmother to Beatrice, Ruby, Anaelle, Oren, Aiden and Dylan. Daughter of the late Jean and the late Saul Friedman. Daughter-in-law of the late Minnie and the late Monroe Abbey. Eldest sibling to her late brothers Jerry and Mark Friedman. Special sister-in-law to Lois and George Fine, Merle and the late Manny Mitchell, Diane Abbey-Livingston and Jack Livingston, the late Sheila and the late Alan Finekgstone, and the late Joan Abbey Pass. The family would like to express their enormous appreciation and thanks to Cherry Zapanta, Myrna’s extraordinary long time caregiver and companion. Myrna was a unique woman who did not walk this earth quietly. She had a huge and generous heart, coupled with an unbridled voice. One always knew where you stood with Myrna. There wasn’t a shy bone in her body when sharing her thoughts – about you, the people in her orbit, or what was on her mind. There is something to be said for being genuine. She loved her kids, grandkids and great- grandchildren. Sometimes you weren’t so sure in the moment, however we all knew and understood her true self and who she was at her core. She loved nothing more and could not wait for the opportunity to expand her immediate family circle to include her adored nieces and nephews, their spouses, and offspring. She was a phenomenal hostess and great friend to many cherished people in Montreal and, indeed, around the world. Most of all, she was crazy about Stanley, enjoying a marriage that grew and flourished for sixty years. We will miss Myrna terribly, but are glad that they are together again, golfing in the brightest of sunshine, just as spring arrives. May their drives be straight, their putts be true, and their memory forever be a blessing. Love you Mom. Love you Grandma. Private graveside service to be live streamed via Zoom. Contributions in Myrna’s memory may be made to the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors Foundation, (514) 734-1825, bit.ly/3g2Dcyc
