Obituary for
Mona Larose (Martin)
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mona Larose (née Martin) on August 18, 2021 at the Extendicare in Timmins. While Mona had her ups and downs in the past few years with her health, this last was a short illness, and she died peacefully in the early morning hours.
Mona is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Rodney, and her two children, Marc Larose (Jennifer) from Timmins, and daughter, Charlene Larose, from Ottawa. Mona both loved and took pride in her two grandchildren, Eric (Cassandra) and Ryan. Mona is also survived by a brother, Gilles Martin (Mary) of Oakville. Her three other siblings, Ruth, Claude, and very recently, Ivan, have all passed.
For a number of years, Mona was the Chief Operator for the Ontario Northland Telecommunications Commission (ONTC) in Timmins. Setting that position of responsibility aside to raise a family, she eventually returned to the ONTC as a telephone operator and built lifelong friendships with a number of “the girls”.
To know Mona was to understand that she was the bedrock of the family. She managed the house, the kids, a husband, the pets, and a job, not to mention caring for her own mother, Marie-Ange Martin. She provided the quiet foundation that fed and nurtured us, and that brought us together. Aside from feeding our souls, she enjoyed cooking, and making sure our bodies were fed as well. Her tourtières (meat pies) were legendary at Christmastime, as was her baking. She was a kind woman with a generous and patient spirit.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Our hearts are broken, but she would want them to heal. And so they will with time. Mona believed in Angels. And if she is right, then she is watching over us and will help us on our own journeys.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Extendicare during the past year, and the nursing staff who helped her at the end. In particular, thanks to Barbara, the Charge Nurse, who helped Mona and her family through the final hours. Over the years, Mona also had excellent medical care, and the family wishes to thank Dr. Voogjarv and Rhoda, Dr. Cohen and his office staff, as well as the staff at Bayshore. Others helped Mona along her journey including nurses, doctors, and physio-therapists. the family is grateful to all those who assisted over the years.
The family will receive friends on Saturday August 21, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at LESSARD-STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME (masks and social distancing measures in place). A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Those who wish to attend the memorial service MUST CALL the funeral home on Friday August 20, 2021 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to indicate your interest, as there will be limited space due to COVID-19 safety measures. Interment to follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations are gratefully welcomed in Mona’s memory to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
