Obituary of Molly May Farrell
Molly May Farrell – February 7, 1932-May 1st, 2021
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our mother and grandmother Molly May Farrell, at the age of 89. Predeceased by the love of her life Donald (April 4, 2021). Mother of Kathy (Mike) & Jim (Rose) and loved by her grandchildren David (Kelley) Alleda and Meagan.
Born to William and Dora Churney with little brother Tommy, Molly grew up in Thorold South with her extended family! A vivacious woman with lots of life met Donald Farrell, 23 at the age of 17 at a roller skating rink and fell madly in love and the rest was history. Don would later say if he knew Molly’s age when they first met he wouldn’t have asked her out, but then we wouldn’t all be here today. They married October 11, 1952 and moved into the house they had built in Merritton.
While Don was a teacher at Lakeport Secondary School, Molly was working in the office at General Motors. She would later go on to work for Statistics Canada which brought her all over the country side of Niagara. This started her love affair for the country. Once Kathy won her pony, they needed a farm and they found their little piece of heaven, in Beamsville, on a 3 acre hobby farm near the Bruce Trail where she would walk their dog Nanook, and take her grandchildren David, Alleda and Meagan to explore the beauty of the area. Being out in nature, gardening and bird watching, brought her so much joy!
After Statistics Canada, Molly went on to work for the Trinity United Church in Beamsville as the secretary and volunteered at the Niagara Distress Centre for 15 years. In her spare time Molly would sit in her front window chair at the farm and she would knit over 500 hats a year to donate to the Salvation Army for the homeless, she continued to knit for the less fortunate until she passed.
Reunited with the love of her life after a long year without him, they are once again together. We were so lucky to have shared so many beautiful moments and have learned so much by her example and grace. She will be missed everyday but we will always carry her in our hearts!
