MITSCHKE, Jessie Wyman
January 5, 1940 — October 24, 2021
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jessie Wyman Mitschke. He passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 on October 24, 2021, surrounded by his wife, and best friend, Sharron and their children, Mark Mitschke (Jacqueline Delichte), Lainie Tigchelaar (Rick) and Chrissy Musgrave (John Petty).
Jessie is survived by his wife and three children; the Mitschke grandchildren Stephen and Johanna (Mark) Martz; the Tigchelaar grandchildren Leah and Jordon (Kadance); and the Musgrave grandchild Greg (Jessica); as well as four great-grandchildren Nicholas, Aaron, Michael and Lily (Johanna). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who adored him (he was a favourite uncle to many).
Jessie was born on January 5, 1940, in a farmhouse near Langenburg, SK. He was the second youngest of 15 kids born to Max & Mabel Mitschke, long since deceased. He is survived by 5 of his siblings and pre-deceased by 9. At the age of 15 he found himself without parents and moved to the big city of Calgary, AB to start his life. Jessie met Sharron when he was 16, and she was only 14. They married on September 3, 1960. He built them their first home, when he was only 20 years old, where they raised their first two children, Mark & Lainie. After many happy years in Calgary, they moved to Kelowna, BC in 1971 where they had their youngest child, Chrissy.
Jessie was an extraordinary carpenter all his working life. He worked hard and came home at the end of every day to unwind in his beautiful yard. Jessie had a long list of loves – mountains, camping, hiking, fresh air & sunshine. He had a huge respect for the peacefulness of nature. He had an adventurous spirit but did everything with due care and attention. He enjoyed family time, friends, card games, and puzzles. Jessie had a big heart and a level head. He was everyone’s favourite guy and the one we all turned to in crisis or trouble.
Most importantly, Jessie and Sharron provided a solid home full of love and laughter for their family and everyone who entered their home. A legacy that Sharron will continue… especially the laughter part!
The family is grateful for your outpouring of support these past few months and have decided to have a private memorial with immediate family only. We want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sebulsky, his doctors and nurses at the Cancer Clinic, Jessie’s Palliative Care Nurse Kristine and all the home care nurses that so graciously helped care for him in his last days. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Agency – Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior.
