Miller, Randall ‘Randy’
September 12th, 2021
After a life well-lived and a hard-fought battle, Randall Miller passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Randy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Odette (Lancup); and their children, Jodie Milne (Paul) and Jason (Roxana). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda Whissell (Jesse), Emily, Maddie, and Angelica; and two great-grandchildren, Holden and Leila. Predeceased by his parents, Norman (Cy) and Dora Miller, as well as his sisters, Charline Morin and Colleen Jones. Within a quiet, gentle demeanor was a very exceptional person. Randy faced his multiple health issues with grace and dignity, never dwelled on what could have been, but rather always looking ahead. Odette and Randy walked hand in hand through every challenge that came their way, and fully enjoyed the blessings in their life. There was no greater joy for Randy than his grandchildren. Randy would often drive hundreds of kilometers in one day to take one of his granddaughters to the latest Disney or Harry Potter movie. He took tremendous pride in all their accomplishments, whether it was Angelica participating in a kindergarten play, Maddie’s dance recitals, Emily’s self-published book with her own illustrations, or watching Amanda grow into a beautiful, successful self-assured young woman and an amazing mom to Holden and Leila. Randy grew up in Sudbury, where he still has some of his closest friends. Diagnosed with kidney disease in his 30s, he was able to fully enjoy life for several decades while the disease progressed slowly, raising his family, and travelling abroad. Randy retired from the LCBO in his early 50s. A few years after retiring, his kidneys started failing and the remainder of his life journey, although a very difficult one at times, was also rich with great experiences. He did not let his dialysis regimen impact his adventures as he travelled to Europe several times, arranging for his dialysis treatments to continue wherever he was. The past 18 months were difficult for Randy, but he played the hand he was dealt as though he was holding all trump. His positive attitude and sense of humour supported those around him when it should have been the other way around. Randy and Odette moved to London 14 years ago, where they could be closer to their children and grandchildren. The drive to movie openings with Emily and Maddie was a little shorter to Cambridge than it had been from Sudbury. In London, they developed some good friendships and were particularly blessed with good neighbours. Randy was a man of deep faith. After arriving in London, Odette and Randy joined St. Patrick Parish in Lucan, where they regularly attended weekly services. A lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Randy was very active with the Knights while they lived in Sudbury. A memorial service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Registration is required to attend.
