Mike Mackiewich passed away peacefully just days before his 78th birthday, after a brief battle with cancer.
Mike loved Vernon and lived here most of his life – except for 10 years spent in Regina. He worked for CP Express, later known as Phoenix Transportation, from the age of 16. Starting in the office, then working as a driver, Mike later moved up into management before retiring at 56.
Mike loved golfing, fishing, working outside, cooking, enjoying the cabin and playing his guitar. He loved to entertain, and he became well known amongst his friends and family for the Gin Breakfast and his jam sessions around town and at home with friends. He was a member of the Lions Club in Vernon and Regina for over 30 years. Mike was an exceptionally loving, kind and generous person, accepting of everyone and willing to help anyone when needed.
He is survived by his wife Marla, daughters Tawnya Cameron and Twyla Ciupka (Mark), his two grandchildren, Claira and Henley Ciupka, brother Pete Mackiewich (Paulette), sister Vi Brett and a large extended family. Mike was predeceased by parents Tom and Nancy Mackiewich, brother Paul, brother-in-law Bob Brett, sister-in-law Laura Mackiewich and son-in-law Scott Cameron.
Our sincere thanks to our family doctor, Tim Gilhooly, and to the staff on the fifth and sixth floors of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their wonderful care of our husband and father.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mike’s Memory to the Schubert Centre Society at 3505-30th Avenue, Vernon BC, V1T 2E6. Or, E-transfer to finance@schubertcentre.com . In the memo, please include Mike’s full name as well as your mailing address for a charitable receipt.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Mike Mackiewich May 11th 2021..
